precinct design...

Hi All,

Ive been spending a lot of time on my precinct as this has been totally
abandoned until now in my project!

I thought about what i wanted to achieve in terms of surface textures,
pedestrian movement, earlier ideas we had for the public space brief etc.

I have a whole new appreciation for landscape architects as I am finding
this very difficult! I went from 2d sketching to playing with surface
level changes in sketch up to see what could happen in three dimensions.

Anyway this is where I'm at. Need to work on getting some drawings up to
scratch for the interim now.

See you all Monday.

Mohamad Model exploration

this is overdue post of comparison from recent work. development from the
'dome' canopy. exploring other ways of using 'canopy' as shelter and
trying to get as much open space and transparency as possible on the
ground floor. maybe should also incorporate solid structure to give sense
of security to also cover from bad weather.

directions: NEXT INTERIM

Hi Everyone,

I'm drawn to send you all an email to inspire you for the next interim in one week's time. Tim and I are about getting the guests again, and we will be having a sharper session, so all your ideas should be well honed and articulated. We've also been developing the end of semester arrangement, and I can confirm that we still have the atrium of Fed Square to use. Richard and I spoke yesterday, and some significant guests are very interested in what you are all doing, and some have been invited to be part of the final judging panel.

Looking regularly at the blog I'm struck with how interesting all of your projects are; they offer the reality of the site something very tangible.

I'd like to encourage you all to move a step beyond the idea and basic expression to starting to really feel out the spaces and atmospheres you are creating. It's time to now really imagine being inside, feeling some of the major rooms as spaces, not just a location on a plan. Each of your projects need to be breathed a life of this rich spatiality.

For the next interim, as well as continuing to develop your project I would advise at a minimum:
- revision of 1/200s
- high quality 1/100s (light, transparency, arrangement...)
- an good attempt at 1/50s (thicknesses, material finishes, furniture, surfaces, ceiling shapes and effects)
- some 1/20 sections and elevations that explore details
- a set of very moody interior and exterior perspectives that give a strong sense of the atmosphere created
- redeveloped models, both of the full intervention in the site model, and studies of smaller spaces.

Hopefully you are all on track with this for Monday. Again, want to really encourage you. If this week you are missing some of these above then dive in and use this list as a first step to get more depth into your project. Your ideas will come out as you draw them.

Best regards,
Ammon +Tim
