Close Over(p)lay Masters Design Studio - Inerim Presentation - Thursday 9th September 2010

Hi everyone,

Was great to see some of you have done a lot of work since last Thursday and have made some bold steps! Keep going.  We are concerned that a few of you are not yet moving at the required pace and must pick it up.  This Thursday is a really important milestone in the semester. It is a chance for you to get some excellent feedback. Make the most of it!

Confirming details discussed last night regarding this Thursday’s presentation. We decided:

1.       It is okay to use the CAD drawings of existing for this presentation however all new works are to be drawn by hand.

2.       The minimum requirements are:

a.       Location Plan/Broader context plan 1:500 or 1:1000.

b.      Precinct Plan 1:200.

c.       All plans 1:200.

d.      2 x Sections 1:200.

e.      Selection of hand drawn perspectives/vignettes.

f.        Hand-made models.

The physical site model is not finalized and will not be ready for Thursday so you will not be able to use this for context during the presentation.

We talked last night about digital presentations being accepted however we are now not going to be able to accommodate this. We will confirm the presentation times and venue soon but we will not be presenting in a room with the available technology.  All presentations are to be on paper.  If you have already done a digital presentation please print out the pages instead. This is your first chance to take some real pride in your presentation techniques and practice for future presentations.

All of you have wonderful ideas! Bring them to life on Thursday! You will have 5 minutes each to present your work and then 5 minutes of feedback.  5 minutes is a very short time so consider the structure of your presentation. I think it is best to structure your verbal presentation around what you have drawn. It never makes sense when you are talking about ideas that are not on paper.

Don’t forget about your work leading up to this point. How do you now stand with your positions on Ornament and Dressing? How did the event change your perception of the site? Think about the key themes of the studio and aim to address a selection of these in your presentation.

Those of you who require a time slot in the early session on Thursday, please email Ammon ASAP.

Enough from me, see you on Thursday, keep going.

Tim.
